Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unveiled Mumbai’s lengthiest intra-city underground road. Spanning 3.93 kilometers, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project includes twin tunnels extending from Princess Street Flyover to Priyadarshani Park.

The project posed distinctive challenges in tunnel lighting design and execution. Equipped with advanced LED technology and intelligent control systems, the tunnels ensure superior visibility, safety, and energy conservation.

Mumbai Coastal Road Project

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project encompasses complex engineering endeavors, such as land reclamation, the construction of bridges, flyovers, and interchanges.

At over 9 kilometers in length, this tunnel will claim the title of the longest underground road within any city in the country. Similar to the Coastal Road tunnel, it has a twin-tube construction approach, complete with viaducts and contemporary safety features.

Mumbai Police in a tweet notified citizens that the maximum speed limit in the tunnel speed limit is 60 kmph. The tunnels has three lanes each, while the remaining stretch of the road will have four lanes on each carriageway.

The road will be operational from 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays (Monday to Friday) for now, as construction activities will be conducted during night hours and weekends to complete the remaining work.
