A bus carrying students faced a precarious situation on Tuesday (July 2) afternoon when its wheel became lodged in an 8-meter pit. This incident occurred after a segment of the four-lane Gurugram-Sohna elevated flyover collapsed for the second time in eight months, officials informed.

However, a potential disaster was averted after another bus came to its rescue by pulling it from behind, allowing the school bus to continue its journey.

Gurugram-Sohna flyover caves in again

The pit, approximately 8 meters deep and two feet wide, appeared on the road leading towards Sohna, near SD Adarsh Vidyalaya, according to an official statement.

Upon receiving information, officials from the road construction company and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) swiftly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area with barricades.

Section of Gurugram-Sohna flyover closed for traffic

Approximately 30% of the road lane has been closed to traffic, with repair work scheduled to commence soon, confirmed a senior GMDA officer.

An official attributed the road collapse to ongoing construction work related to a sewer line, noting that the maintenance company would undertake repairs.

Road issues persist on Gurugram-Sohna flyover

Earlier, a similar incident had occurred in December last year on the same four-lane elevated road towards Sohna, where a pothole measuring about five feet deep and two feet wide developed due to a road collapse at the identical location. Repairing the damage took approximately three months.

Now, the road has experienced another collapse at the same spot. In August 2020 also the construction of the flyover was temporarily halted when a section of the road collapsed during its construction phase.

The construction of this 21-kilometer-long elevated flyover began in 2019 and was completed in two phases by 2021, opening to the public later that year. According to officials, the total cost of the project amounted to Rs 1,944 crore.
