Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy inspected the newly developed satellite terminal station at Cherlapalli on Sunday (October 20). The station, built at a cost of Rs 430 crore, has the capacity to handle 25 pairs of trains, with 10 new lines added, bringing the total to 19 lines. Reddy noted that 98% of the work at Cherlapalli station has been completed, with the remaining tasks expected to finish soon.

According to a release from South Central Railway (SCR), the Cherlapalli station is equipped with modern amenities, including an executive lounge, waiting halls, sleeping pods, cafeterias, restaurants, ticket counters, lifts, escalators, foot over bridges, and EV charging points.

The Union Minister emphasised the government’s mission-mode development of railway infrastructure in Telangana, including new lines, doubling, tripling, electrification, and more.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Reddy also highlighted that 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, and the KAVACH protection system, an indigenous safety technology, is being installed across the state’s rail network to improve operational safety.

Environmentally friendly measures were incorporated into the station’s development, such as translocating 500 trees, creating rainwater harvesting pits, installing a sewage treatment plant, solar panels, LED lighting, and undertaking compensatory afforestation of 5,500 trees.

The new Cherlapalli station is expected to benefit residents of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad by easing congestion at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda stations. BJP MP Eatala Rajender, SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain, and other senior officials were also present at the event.
