Two coaches of the Rani Kamlapati-Saharsa special passenger train derailed when it was about to enter Itarsi station in Madhya Pradesh on Monday evening, an official said. The incident occurred at 6:10 PM at Itarsi station under the Bhopal railway division, however, no casualties were reported.

West Central Railway’s chief public relation officer (CPRO), Harshit Shrivastava, told PTI over the phone from Jabalpur, the WCR headquarters. “The train was about to enter platform number 2 when its two third AC cars derailed,” he said.

According to Shrivastava, the train was travelling less than five kilometres per hour when the derailment occurred, averting a possible catastrophe. He said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The two impacted compartments were removed, an engine was installed, and the train started moving again at 9:10 PM, he said.

At Itarsi Junction, the railway provided refreshments to the train’s passengers. One of the busiest train stations in India is Itarsi, which is located in the Narmadapuram district. It is a significant junction station.
