Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to flag off three significant train services from Guwahati Railway Station on Friday, marking another milestone in enhancing connectivity in the Northeast. The new services include the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train, and Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express.
Focus on Connectivity and Infrastructure Development
The minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and connectivity in the region. Among the highlights of his itinerary, Vaishnaw will dedicate the Tetelia Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Dispur, Guwahati, to the public, improving road and rail connectivity in the area.
In a virtual ceremony, he will also inaugurate a 10-kilowatt FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar. Officials noted that this addition will expand FM coverage within a 70-kilometer radius, offering high-quality broadcasts to over 30 lakh residents in Kokrajhar and nearby districts, including Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang. This marks a significant upgrade from the 20-kilowatt Medium Wave transmitter Akashvani Kokrajhar has been operating with since 1999.
Promoting Technology and Industry
Vaishnaw will virtually inaugurate the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), a deemed-to-be university, further supporting education and technological advancement in the region. Later in the day, he is scheduled to visit the Tata Semiconductor factory at Jagiroad, reflecting the government’s emphasis on fostering industrial development in the Northeast.
Reviewing Railway Progress
During his visit, the minister will also review ongoing projects under the Northeast Frontier Railway, reinforcing the government’s efforts to expedite development initiatives in the region.
