The Delhi Division of Indian Railways successfully executed a layout correction at Crossover 149 A-B, connecting the UP and DN main lines, enhancing the operational efficiency at Jind Yard. The need for layout correction was identified, leading to a detailed graphical layout calculation using AutoCAD, which ensured precision in design and minimized the risk of execution errors.
Pre-block activities commenced on October 5, 2024, with the marking of a new Stock Rail Joint (SRJ). This was based on the calculated crossover length from the AutoCAD solution. Key components, including a 60 kg, 1 in 12 thick web switch and two 13 m track panels, were pre-assembled to expedite the work during the block. Additionally, the TRD team installed a new Overhead Equipment (OHE) mast, and the Signalling team laid cables for the point machine ahead of time.
Successful Execution During Shadow Block
On October 10, 2024, the primary task was to shift the existing turnout by 27 meters on the UP line. This operation was conducted during a six-hour shadow block as part of a mega block strategy to minimize disruption to traffic operations. The successful execution involved three Hydras, three JCBs, and a T-28 machine, ensuring a seamless transition without significant delays.
The engineering team demonstrated effective coordination with the TRD and Signalling departments, ensuring that each task was executed efficiently and without disruption. The TRD team handled the OHE mast installation, while the Signalling team focused on the cable laying for the point machine, showcasing exemplary teamwork.
The lifting of previous speed restrictions significantly enhanced both safety and operational efficiency at Jind Yard. The project was completed within the allotted six-hour block, highlighting the importance of meticulous planning, efficient machinery utilization, and strong interdepartmental collaboration.
