In a remarkable incident, a 24-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on the Mumbai-Varanasi Kamayani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district. The unexpected delivery occurred in the early hours of Friday, leaving the family members overjoyed, prompting them to name the infant after the train itself.
According to Railway Protection Force (RPF) inspector Manju Mahobe, the woman, who was travelling with her husband from Nashik in Maharashtra to Satna in Madhya Pradesh, unexpectedly went into labour between Bhopal and Vidisha.
RPF in action
Mahobe informed that two women passengers in the same coach came forward to assist the expectant mother, while a male passenger quickly alerted the authorities about the urgent situation.
Upon receiving the distress call, the RPF sprang into action, coordinating with railway authorities to ensure a safe delivery. The train was immediately halted at Vidisha railway station, where medical assistance was arranged for both the newborn and the mother.
Furthermore, after the successful delivery, both the mother and the baby were promptly transferred to the Harda District Hospital for a thorough assessment of their health. According to the RPF official, both mother and child are in stable condition and are recuperating well.
In a touching gesture, the family members of the newborn decided to name her ‘Kamayani’ after the express train on which she was born, symbolizing the unexpected but joyful journey they experienced together.
This heartwarming incident highlights the spirit of resilience and community support that often emerges during unexpected situations, especially in the close-knit environment of train travel.
