A thick blanket of fog continues to envelop many parts of North India, causing widespread disruptions, including train delays and cancellations. In Ayodhya, dense fog led to several trains being canceled or diverted, according to reports.

Visuals from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra city showed the iconic Taj Mahal shrouded in a thin layer of fog, while Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district also experienced heavy fog, as depicted in recent footage.

The dense fog severely impacted railway operations, delaying approximately 25 trains, including the Poorva Express, Vikramshila Express, RJPB Tejas Express, Patalkot Express, and Mewar Express.

Passengers faced significant delays due to the reduced visibility. Sumit Kumar, traveling from Bihar to Prayagraj, shared that his train was delayed by one to two hours. “The train has slowed down due to poor visibility caused by the fog,” he said.

Another passenger, Nisha, expressed her discomfort, stating, “All the trains are delayed because of the cold. We’ve been waiting for hours, and it’s hard to sit here due to the cold.”

Delhi weather update

Meanwhile, Delhi woke up to a thick fog layer on Tuesday morning, coupled with a severe cold wave, plunging temperatures, and biting winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius in Delhi at 5:30 AM, with the minimum forecasted at 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 19 degrees Celsius. Dense fog is expected to persist throughout the day.

In response to the chilling conditions, many people sought refuge in night shelters set up across Delhi by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). A total of 235 pagoda tents have been installed to house the homeless, with shelters located at sites such as AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin flyover. Bonfires were also lit to provide warmth amid the plunging mercury.
