Indian Railways is conducting intensive ticket checking across all its zones to deter ticketless or irregular travel in trains. The move aims at enhancing the overall travel experience and ensuring compliance with ticketing regulations. It will also curb ticketless and irregular travel in order to provide comfortable travel and better services to all ticket-carrying rail users.

In this context, Central Railway (CR) deserves special mention. The zonal railway has launched an intensive ticket checking in all its Suburban, Mail, Express, Passenger and Special trains across the five divisions – Mumbai, Bhusawal, Nagpur, Solapur and Pune.

The Mumbai Division has earned Rs 57.37 crore so far in the current fiscal through this initiative. It praised the ticket checking squad TTE Sunil Nainani, who has achieved individual ticket checking earnings of more than Rs 1 crore in the current financial year. 

“Case of Honesty”

In a statement, Dr Shivraj Manaspure, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Central Railway (CR) said, “Staff backed by numerous cases of honesty, rescue of children, minors and lifesaving acts which has helped put forward a very positive image of Railways.” 

About Sunil Nainani

Sunil D Nainani joined the Indian Railways on November 20, 1985. Currently, he is posted at DCTI office, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) as TTI, Mumbai Division. He has been a consistent performer for the Division. Nainani has caught 10428 ticketless passengers and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,00,02,830 (in 152 days) on them from April 01, 2023 to October 13, 2023. In the last fiscal, he achieved more than Rs 1.5 crores from April 2022 to March 2023. 

In FY 2022-23, a total 4 TTEs of Mumbai division have imposed a penalty of more than 1 Crores individually. They are –

  • Sunil Nainani – imposed Rs 1.62 crore penalty on 18,413 ticketless passengers
  • Bhim Reddy – imposed Rs 1.03 crore penalty on 11,178 ticketless passengers
  • MM Shinde – imposed Rs 1 crore penalty on 11,145 ticketless passengers
  • RD Bahot – imposed Rs 1 crore penalty on 11,292 ticketless passengers.

Railways’ appeals to passengers

The national transporter has also appealed to passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.
