Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday (February 26) informed that railway projects amounting to Rs 13,168 crore are currently in progress within the state, aiming to fortify the rail network and enhance its infrastructure.
The information was shared by Shukla at an event at the Baijnath Paprola railway station in Kangra district.
During the event, Shukla highlighted that the station is slated for renovation under the ‘Amrit Bharat’ scheme, anticipating an upswing in tourist footfall in Shiv Bhoomi Baijnath.
During the virtual inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony attended by the governor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the redevelopment of 554 stations and 1,585 road overbridges and underpasses nationwide, as per an official statement.
Himachal railways infra development picks up pace
The governor affirmed that the railway initiatives in the state are geared towards ensuring smoother and improved travel experiences. Notably, in the Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, a historic allocation of Rs 2,081 crore has been earmarked for the railway development in Himachal Pradesh.
He further stated that the construction of new railway lines, the doubling of existing tracks, and the electrification of railway routes in the state are progressing at an unprecedented pace. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Train in Himachal Pradesh has enhanced travel by providing fast, easy, and convenient facilities, he added.
Additionally, efforts are underway to redevelop the Amb-Andaura railway station in Himachal Pradesh, aiming to offer state-of-the-art rail facilities. The Governor emphasized ongoing initiatives to invigorate the railway infrastructure in the state.
Highlighting the significance of heritage lines, the Governor noted that Himachal Pradesh boasts two narrow gauge heritage lines, with Kalka Shimla recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Shimla station redevelopment
The redevelopment work of the Shimla station is currently in progress. The Governor outlined that station redevelopment encompasses the enhancement of circulating areas with landscaping, separate entry and exit points, designated parking facilities, and sufficient space based on passenger capacity. He provided detailed insights into other facilities planned for these stations.
