In the aftermath of a tragic stampede that claimed 121 lives during a religious congregation in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, Indian Railways has taken proactive steps to facilitate the safe return of around 3,000 attendees.
Special arrangements by railway authorities
The railway authorities have implemented special arrangements to accommodate these individuals, ensuring their journey home is both secure and convenient. Notably, a speed restriction of 15 kmph has been enforced on all trains passing through the Sikandar Rau station, as confirmed by the railway ministry. This precautionary measure aims to safeguard the movement of trains and prioritize passenger safety amidst the ongoing situation.
Additionally, several trains, including the Mathura-Tanakpur Fair Special, Agra Fort-Kasganj Passenger Special, and Bandra Terminus Antyodaya Express, have been granted extra stoppages at Sikandar Rau station. Furthermore, special stoppages have been arranged at various other stations along their routes, ensuring ease of access and convenience for passengers.
“Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Senior Divisional Security Commissioner are present at the site along with the other officers of the division,” an official from the Railway Board said.
The ministry stated on Tuesday night that a medical team, led by Dr. Saurabh Dandiyal, has been established at the site to provide first-aid treatment or any necessary medical intervention for passengers in need.
The Ministry mentioned that water and food packets have been provided to all individuals waiting at the station.
The ministry stated that three empty coaches have been prepared at Kasganj station for potential deployment as special trains to Sikandar Rau Station if required.
