Madurai Junction, one of Tamil Nadu’s busiest railway stations, is undergoing a significant redevelopment as part of the ongoing Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment aims to modernise the station’s infrastructure, enhancing passenger amenities and ease of travel. According to recent updates, several crucial components of the station’s redevelopment are either completed or nearing completion.
Work Completed
The first phase of construction has seen significant progress. Notably, the substation building has been completed, ensuring the station’s electrical infrastructure is up to modern standards. Additionally, the groundwork and structure for the East Terminal Building (Segment 1) have been finalized, which will offer improved facilities for passengers once fully operational.
Works In Progress
Several important elements of the station’s redevelopment are currently in progress. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) Canteen is being constructed to provide better facilities for station staff and law enforcement. Furthermore, work on the concrete and steel Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) is underway, which will enhance the station’s accessibility for passengers.
An air concourse is also being developed to streamline passenger movement and ease congestion. To accommodate the growing number of commuters, a multi-level parking structure is being built to ensure ample parking space for passengers’ vehicles.
