Indian Railways is working to redevelop West Bengal’s Bolpur (Shantiniketan) railway station under the prestigious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The move aims enhancing the infrastructure and services at o­ne of the iconic railway stations of the country.

Cost of Bolpur (Shantiniketan) railway station redevelopment project:-

The Bolpur (Shantiniketan) railway station will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 21.1 crore. It falls under the administrative jurisdiction of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division. The zonal railway is making continuous efforts to modernise Bolpur railway station with state-of-the-art amenities.

Features of Bolpur (Shantiniketan) railway station modernisation project:- 

The modernisation project will give a facelift to the station with pleasing design elements and landscaping. Tiled surfaces provide better traction, reducing the risk of slip and fall accidents, especially during adverse weather conditions. Tiles used are known for their durability and longevity, making them resistant to wear and tear from heavy foot traffic and environmental factors. The station premise will also have a new parking facility with an increased capacity to accommodate a higher number of vehicles.

The Bolpur (Shantiniketan) railway station redevelopment project aims at providing a seamless and comfortable journey for all travellers passing through the century-old station. It will ease congestion, reduce waiting times, and enhance the overall station experience.

The commuters will have an experience of well-maintained pedestrian pathways, sheltered waiting areas, and easy access to ticket counters. The project will make boarding and disembarking from trains more accessible, especially for elderly and differently-abled passengers.

The Bolpur (Shantiniketan) station is one the important railway stations in Birbhum district. The station was established in 1860. It is a junction station with connections to Delhi, Kolkata, Cuttack, Patna etc. It takes two to three hours by train from Kolkata.
