Say, you are a resident of Brazil, the United Kingdom, India, or Japan and want to live in Spain yet continue doing jobs for employers remotely, the Digital Nomad Visa is the answer.

The Digital Nomad Visa is appropriate for workers or employees who are not required to visit their employer’s office during weekdays or business hours. However, work-from-home employees may not find it apt to work and spend some quality time abroad using the Digital Nomad Visa.

The Spain Digital Nomad Visa is for any foreigner who intends to live in the country as a resident while working remotely for a company or employer (or self-employed) based outside of the Spanish national territory and using only computer telematics and communications media and systems.

When the applicant is self-employed, one can also work for a company located in Spain, as long as the percentage of this particular work doesn´t exceed 20% of the total amount of their professional activity.

The applicant must have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a University, College or Business School of prestige, or have at least 3 years of work experience in the current field of activity.

The spouse or unmarried partner and dependent children and dependent relatives may also obtain the visa.

The applicant must apply for a Foreigner Identity Number (NIE) number prior to visa application. A NIE may be obtained directly in Spain or at the Consular Office of the applicant’s country of residence. The NIE is a personal, unique and exclusive number that is assigned to foreigners who, for economic, professional, or social reasons, are engaged in activities related to Spain and require identification in this country.

The list of documents required to get a Spain Digital Nomad Visa includes a national visa application form, Photograph, Valid passport, Criminal record certificate, Proof of residence in the consular district, Payment of the visa fee, and proof of Health insurance

Requirements for International Workers

  • Certification of working for at least 3 months for a foreign Company. To this end, the applicant will submit a certificate, issued by the company and stating the following:
  • If the applicant is an employee: 1. Length of the contract. 2. Explicit consent to work remotely in Spain. 3. Salary.
  • If the applicant is self-employed: 1 Length of the contract. 2. The terms and conditions to work remotely in Spain.
  • Documentary proof of financial means. Financial means must be at least 200% of the monthly Spanish national minimum wage as shown in the work contracts, bank statements, and payslips. As of January 1, 2024, the current minimum wage in Spain is €1,134.00 per month in 2024.
  • Copy of the University degree or professional certificate confirming that the applicant has at least 3 years of experience in his/her business activity.
