Canada Parents and Grandparents Program application deadline ends August 2

You must act fast if you applied for Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program and received an invitation. The last date to apply to sponsor parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada is nearing.

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2024 application deadline is Friday, August 2 at 11:59 EST. If you received an invitation, you must submit your PGP application electronically through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal by the deadline of August 2.

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) provides Canadian citizens and permanent residents the opportunity to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence. Sponsors must be at least 18 years old, meet an income threshold, and sign an undertaking to support their parents and grandparents for 20 years.

Immigrants who have obtained Canadian citizenship can sponsor their parents and grandparents to reside and work in the nation. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows individuals to sponsor their parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada.

This is a program to sponsor your parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada. You must submit your completed application by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 2, 2024.

Starting May 21, 2024, IRCC randomly invited potential sponsors who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 to apply for the 2024 intake. IRCC sent 35,700 invitations over approximately 2 weeks and hopes to accept up to 20,500 complete applications.

If you are not invited this year but still want to visit your parents and grandparents in Canada, consider having them apply for a super visa, which is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to ten years.

Super visa holders can now extend their stay in Canada by up to two years at a time without leaving the country, for a total of five years. These changes will make it easier for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit their parents and grandparents for extended periods in the nation.
