The first metro of Patna achieved a milestone with the successful breakthrough of the first tunnel by Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-02. The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) is vigorously pushing forward to initiate train operations along its corridor, marking a significant step in Bihar’s inaugural metro rail project with an estimated budget exceeding Rs 13,000 crore.

The project has two primary corridors: one stretching from Danapur to Mithapur, and the other from Patna Railway Station to New ISBT. Situated within the corridor-2 Line section linking the ISBT station and Patna Junction, this tunnel marks a crucial advancement in the Phase 1 construction of the project.

Spanning a length of 1480 meters between the Moin Ul Haq Stadium station and the University station, the TBM-02 commenced its journey in July 2023, completing the task within a span of 10 months, culminating on May 14, 2024, according to a statement by PMRC.

Constructing tunnels for metro train operations in Bihar’s capital has been a formidable challenge. PMRC highlighted the hurdles encountered along the tunnel alignment and said, “Despite facing numerous obstacles along the tunnel alignment, including approximately 900 buildings and 100 bore wells, the project persevered, overcoming the challenges posed by the densely populated area.”

Under the guidance of DMRC

In March, Daljeet Singh, Advisor (Special Works) of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), issued directives to expedite metro construction works safely within their designated timelines.

He conducted thorough inspections of the construction sites for the Patna Metro Rail Project, assessing the progress of civil, electrical, and track-related works at various locations such as Malahi Pakdi, Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road, ISBT Depot, RPS Mor, Sagunamore, and Patliputra Station, among others. This focused attention underscores the commitment to ensure the timely completion of the project while adhering to stringent safety protocols.
