The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated a tender for the construction of a car shed at Kanjurmarg with an estimated cost of Rs 506 crore for Metro Line-6, which will connect Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri to Vikhroli. This significant development was announced on Wednesday.

Metro Line-6 Overview

Metro Line-6 is a fully elevated rail network spanning 14.477 kilometers, boasting a total of 13 stations.

Project Cost Breakdown

According to the tender documents, the estimated project cost of Rs 506 crore encompasses the construction of the Kanjurmarg depot, which includes essential components such as stabling lines, a depot control center, administrative buildings, staff quarters, a maintenance workshop, auxiliary substations, and various infrastructure elements.

Key Features of Kanjurmarg Depot

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner at MMRDA, elaborated on the Kanjurmarg depot’s features, which will span an impressive 15 hectares. These features include 18 stabling lines, a workshop, a maintenance line, an automatic train washing facility, an Operations Control Center (OCC), and staff quarters.

Project Completion Timeline

Upon the awarding of the letter of intent to the contractor, the project is expected to be finalized within 30 months, ensuring timely completion.

Enhancing Mumbai’s Metro Network

Mukherjee emphasized the vital role of the metro network in Mumbai, describing it as a lifeline for the city. The MMRDA is dedicated to accelerating the construction process to meet the city’s growing transportation needs.

Land Controversy Clarification

MMRDA officials addressed any concerns regarding the land for the Metro Line-6 car shed near the Eastern Express Highway at Kanjurmarg. They made it clear that this development is unrelated to the land occupied by Metro Line-3, which connects Colaba, the Airport, and SEEPZ.
