The Delhi Metro network has achieved a remarkable milestone of becoming the longest metro route in the country. The move comes following the opening of Dwarka Sector-21 to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector–25 Metro section on Airport Express Line corridor. With the opening of this stretch, the city’s rapid transit network has become 393 kms long with 288 stations (including the Noida – Greater Noida Metro Corridor and Rapid Metro, Gurugram).
Delhi metro’s first service:-
Delhi Metro is being maintained and operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) serving the national capital and its adjoining cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Ballabgarh and Gurugram. It began its service on December 25, 2002 from Shahdara to Tis Hazari on the Red Line.
Delhi Metro operates on more than 10 lines:-
Presently, Delhi Metro has more than 10 lines. These are – Red Line (Line 1), Yellow Line (Line 2), Blue Line (Line 3 and 4), Green Line, Violet Line, Pink Line, Magenta Line, Grey Line, Airport Express Line or Orange Line, Rapid Metro (RMGL) and Aqua Line.
A look at details on corridors of Delhi Metro:-
- Red Line: The 33.48 km long Red Line has 29 stations and four interchanges at Welcome, Kashmere Gate, Inderlok and Netaji Subhash Place.
- Yellow Line: The 47.25 km long Yellow Line stretches from Samaypur Badli to Millenium City Centre Gurugram has 37 stations with eight interchanges.
- Blue Line (Line 3): The 55.56 km long Blue Line stretches from Dwarka Sector-21 to Noida Electronic City has 50 stations with 10 interchanging facilities.
- Blue Line (Line 4): The 8.23 km long line has eight stations with 3 interchanges. These are – Yamuna Bank, Karkarduma and Anand Vihar ISBT.
- Green Line: The 27.96 km long Green Line has 24 stations with 4 interchanges at Kirti Nagar, Inderlok, Ashok Park Main and Punjabi Bagh West.
- Violet Line: The 45 km long Violet Line has 34 stations with 5 interchanges at Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and Kalkaji Mandir.
- Pink Line: The 57.49 km long line stretches from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar. It has 38 stations with 11 interchanges.
- Magenta Line: The 34.12 km long Magenta Line has 25 stations with 4 interchanges at Janak Puri West, Hauz Khas, Kalkaji Mandir and Botanical Garden.
- Grey Line: The 4.98 km long Grey Line stretches from Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand. It has 4 stations with one interchange station at Dwarka.
- Airport Express Line: The 24.9 km long Airport Express Line (AEL) has seven stations with 3 interchanges at New Delhi, Dhaula Kuan and Dwarka Sector-21.
- Rapid Metro (RMGL): The 10.58 km long route stretches from Sector 55/56 to Phase 3 has 11 stations with one interchange facility at Sikanderpur.
