The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that Bengaluru Metro achieved a record-breaking footfall of over 9 lakh on Friday, largely attributed to Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert in the city.
As per the BMRCL, the Bengaluru Metro saw a total of 9,20,562 record boardings, of which Line 1 (Purple Line) witnessed 4.39 lakh riders and Line 2 (Green line) saw 3.12 lakh riders. The Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station handled 1.67 lakh riders. This milestone surpasses Bengaluru Metro’s previous record of 9.17 lakh riders on August 14, 2024. It also exceeds the earlier highs of 8.26 lakh on August 6, 2024, and 8.25 lakh on Independence Day 2022.
In addition to Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Friday night, the BMRCL attributed the surge in ridership to the weekend rush.
A BMRCL spokesperson said, “With the Green Line connecting to Madavara (BIEC), thousands of music lovers who gathered at the concert had access to the Metro. This coupled with a weekend ahead and people travelling to their hometowns possibly led to the surge in ridership on Friday.”
Anticipating heavy traffic congestion on Tumkur Road, the Bengaluru traffic police had advised people to use public transport to reach the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).
