On August 20, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) achieved a historic milestone, recording the highest-ever count of daily passenger journeys. 77.48 lakh passengers traveled on the Delhi Metro network, surpassing the previous record of 72.38 lakh set on August 13, 2024.
Significant Increase in Ridership
The significant increase in daily ridership highlights the growing popularity and efficiency of Delhi’s urban transportation system. The latest data shows that the August 20 figure eclipsed previous high counts, including 71.09 lakh on February 13, 71.07 lakh on August 12, 71.04 lakh on September 4, 2023, and 70.88 lakh on February 12.
The DMRC reported that the surge in passenger numbers led to the deployment of additional trains to manage the increased load and ensure smooth passenger flow. The efficient handling of the high volume of passengers was made possible by the extensive network, which spans nearly 393 kilometers and includes 2,888 stations across the Delhi Metro, Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor, and Rapid Metro in Gurugram.
Journey or line utilization is calculated based on the number of corridors passengers use to reach their destinations, reflecting the comprehensive service provided by the metro system. This latest achievement underscores the Delhi Metro’s role in enhancing urban mobility and accommodating the city’s growing transportation needs.
