In a groundbreaking development, officials on Monday (February 19) announced the successful installation of the last viaduct span connecting Meerut South to Shatabdi Nagar Station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.

This development marks the final touch on the entire 48-km-long viaduct, a railway bridge, spanning from Sahibabad to Meerut, according to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) officials.

RRTS corridor moving to the next phase

This crucial section covers approximately 6 km and is now poised for the next phase, with officials confirming that the laying of tracks and traction-related activities will start soon. The dynamic progress extends to the emergence of Partapur, Rithani, and Shatabdi Nagar stations, rapidly taking shape in alignment with project timelines.

Moreover, NCRTC in a statement also revealed that it has completed the technical equipment rooms in these stations. This emphasises their commitment to passenger convenience by constructing entry-exit gates on both sides of the road.

“The construction of technical equipment rooms has also been completed in these stations. Keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, entry-exit gates are being built on both sides of the road in these stations,” the NCRTC said in a statement.

A noteworthy achievement for the RRTS corridor in Meerut occurred recently when it successfully crossed the Indian Railways line at Partapur Station, soaring at an impressive height of about 20 meters.

RRTS corridor stages and status

It may be noted that the RRTS project falls under the Namo Bharat initiative and is divided into four stages. Stage one, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2023, covers the 17 km-long priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. Stage two, spanning 25 km beyond the priority section to Meerut South, is progressing with trial runs for Namo Bharat trains and is set to commence train services soon.

The subsequent stages involve operations from Sahibabad to Sarai Kale Khan stations in Delhi, and services from Meerut South towards Modi Puram Depot in Meerut. This will ultimately complete the entire 82 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. According to the officials, the RRTS corridor project is poised to be completed well before the June 2025 deadline.
