The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) continues to be a safe, efficient, and trustworthy travel partner for the public. In September, it experienced consistent growth in passenger traffic, with a total of 84,37,182 passengers travelling across all its corridors. This milestone has now pushed the count of metro passengers to 6,66,17,247 this year so far.

A look at the ridership details from January-August 2023:-

In January, 66,07,458 have travelled on the metro trains followed by 63,69,282 in February; 69,99,341 in March; 66,85,432 in April; 72,68,007 in May; 74,06,876 in June, 82,53,692 in July; and 85,89,977 in August.

Highest passenger flow in September’ 2023:- 

Last month, the CMRL recorded the highest number of passengers on September 15th. A total of 3,37,586 passengers have boarded the city’s rapid transit system. 

How many passengers used the QR Code ticketing system in September?

In the previous month, a total of 32,54,175 passengers have utilised the QR Code ticketing system. Of these, 1,95,222 have used Online QR, followed by Static QR – 90,786; Paper QR – 24,96,130; Paytm – 2,87,083; Whatsapp – 1,84,954. 43,63,739 passengers have used Travel Card Ticketing System, 2,68,579 passengers have used Token System, 6,986 passengers have used Group Ticketing System and 5,43,703 passengers have used NCMC Singara Chennai Card. 

CMRL offers discounts on ticketing

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited is offering a 20 percent discount on all ticketing i.e. Metro Travel Card, Mobile QR Code ticketing – Single, Return, Group Tickets and Q.R Trip passes, Whatsapp and Paytm.

CMRL to take strict action against passengers for obstructing metro operations

The Chennai Metro Rail has issued a statement saying that it would take action against passengers obstructing doors during peak hours. It stated that obstructing train doors is not only an inconvenience but also a violation of the law. “The Operations and Maintenance Act of 2002, Section 67 outlines the offense of obstructing the running of a train and prescribes penalties for the same.”
