The European Union (EU) and India have partnered in a significant step towards promoting innovation in the field of Battery Recycling Technologies for Electric Vehicles (EVs).
With the launch of Expression of Interest (EOI) for startups working in this sector, the collaboration marks the beginning of a matchmaking event aimed at strengthening cooperation between EU-Indian SMEs and startups in clean and green technologies.
The matchmaking event is to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and expertise crucial for advancing the circularity of rare materials and transitioning towards carbon-neutrality in both India and the EU.
The event is scheduled for June this year; its key objectives will be to provide a platform for Indian and EU startups specializing in EV Battery Recycling Technologies to showcase their innovative solutions.
Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, said that, “We are dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where sustainability and innovation form the cornerstone of a flourishing circular economy.”
To pitch their ideas during the Matchmaking Event Twelve startups, six from each region, will be selected. Six finalists, three each from EU and India will be awarded the opportunity to visit each other’s region.
The event aims to identify, support, and promote startups dedicated to advancing battery recycling technologies for EVs. The shortlisted startups will get to experience cooperation, potential trade avenues, customer relations, and they can also explore investment avenues
“The match-making event is a step-ahead to unlock innovative possibilities leading to a green and circular economy.”, said Marc Lemaître, Director-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission.
Interested startups from India and the EU can submit their application by April 30 visiting the government official website.
This event comes after the establishment of India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) on 6 February 2023 following the announcement by the Indian Prime Minister and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen during their meeting in New Delhi in April 2022.
This strategic coordination mechanism allows both sides to address challenges at the nexus of trade, trusted technology, security, and deepens cooperation in these fields.
