Food delivery platform Zomato has introduced a new feature that allows users to track the total number of orders placed on the platform throughout the day. This information is displayed to customers after they place an order, providing a real-time glimpse into the company’s daily order volumes.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced the launch of the feature through a post on X on Friday. “A cool new update for everyone. You can now see the LIVE order count on @Zomato for the day, right after you place your order. Just placed an order at around 11 am, and the count was already over 250,000. Have fun!” Goyal wrote.
The launch has sparked varied reactions on social media. While many users appreciated the “cool” feature, others questioned its practical value. Ruchit G Garg, a verified user on the social media platform, voiced a common concern, “What value does it add to the end-consumer? Genuinely curious…”
Industry experts note that this move comes as Zomato’s main rival, Swiggy, has reportedly scaled back on launching new and innovative features. Swiggy is said to have adopted a leaner, more predictable path in the build-up to its IPO. In contrast, Zomato, having successfully listed, appears to be in a better position to innovate on features, experts noted.
