Jyotiraditya Scindia, who took charge as the communications minister on Tuesday said he will soon come up with a “full plan of priorities.”

The minister will be engaging with department of telecom (DoT) secretary Neeraj Mittal and other officials from the department to understand the key issues pertaining to the sector.

The plan is to unveil a road map and also work towards achieving items on the 100-day agenda of the new government, according to officials.

“It is also a little bit like coming full circle for me. I worked as a junior minister in this department many many years ago in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Therefore for me it is also a department with which I have had tremendous emotional ties,” Scindia told reporters.

“Both the Telecom division as well as the India post division have a tremendous role to play at the global stage as well as on the local stage, to enjoin the hearts of millions of people across the country and the world,” Scindia added.

For Scindia, overseeing the spectrum auctions which begin from June 25, framing rules for the new Telecom Act, satellite spectrum allocation, and handling the growing volume of pesky calls, will be among the priority areas.

Scindia was minister of state for communications in the UPA-I government and had initiated a major reform process of the postal system under Project Arrow for post office modernisation.

He is taking over a sector, which has lower litigations, improved financial metrics, and lesser uncertainty.

Some of the other issues, which will require Scindia’s attention include the 6 GHz spectrum band for telecom and Wi-Fi, mandatory caller identification solution, BSNL’s 4G/5G rollout, work on 6G technology, and improvement in telecom production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
