Ather Energy, now the country’s third-largest electric two-wheeler (E2W) maker, saw its revenue per scooter fall 12% in FY25 as it shifted focus to its affordable family scooter, Rizta, which accounted for close to 60% of total sales in the previous fiscal.

Revenue per scooter of the Bengaluru-based EV firm dropped to ₹128,295 in FY25 from ₹143,333 in FY24 and ₹155,571 in FY23, according to the company’s FY25 annual report. The decline was largely due to the success of Rizta, which became the company’s bestselling model within a year of its launch and helped it overtake rivals like Ola Electric in market share.

“While the Ather Rizta line is on average ₹16,500 cheaper than the Ather 450 line, our software AtherStack drove significant adoption of the Propack,” the company said. Ather’s revenue from operations rose by 29% to ₹2,255 crore in FY25, with vehicle sales contributing 88% while non-vehicle revenue, including software, accounted for the rest.

Rizta’s contribution to Ather’s sales

Rizta alone contributed 57% of Ather Energy’s total sales of 155,394 units in FY25, with the 450 range contributing 66,525 units (43%). “The Rizta, our first family scooter launched in FY25, has boosted volumes and market share in key geographies,” founders Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain said in a joint note.

Ather emerged as the market leader in South India in Q4FY25, capturing 22% of sales across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The company is now looking to expand its presence in non-South markets such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Delhi.

Ather’s manufacturing expansion plans

Currently, Ather’s scooters are built on the 450 platform. The company is also developing new models under its EL and Zenith platforms, including motorcycles.

On the manufacturing side, Ather operates two vehicle assembly lines and three battery pack lines at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, with a combined installed capacity of 420,000 E2Ws and 380,000 battery packs annually. It is now expanding capacity with Factory 3.0 at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra.

“The first phase of the facility, work for which has already begun, is planned to commence production in phases during FY27,” the company said. Upon completion of both phases, Ather’s total installed capacity from Hosur and Factory 3.0 will reach 1.42 million E2Ws a year.
