Republic Day 2024 Gallantry Awards: A Day before the 75th Republic Day celebrations, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the gallantry awards and service medals for security personnel on Thursday. According to the official statement released by the home ministry, 1,132 security personnel will be conferred with the honours for their exceptional services. Those who have been awarded the service medals are from Fire Service, Police, Civil Defence, Home Guard and Correctional Service, the statement said.
How many security personnel have been awarded the President’s Medal
According to the MHA, this year, President’s Medal for Gallantry has been conferred upon two security personnel. On the other hand, Medal for Gallantry has been awarded to 275 personnel.
Among the 277 Gallantry Awards, 119 individuals from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, 133 from the Jammu & Kashmir region, and 25 from other regions are being honoured for their courageous actions. Of the total Gallantry Medals, 275 have been conferred upon 72 individuals from J&K Police, 18 from Maharashtra, 26 from Chhattisgarh, 23 from Jharkhand, 15 from Odisha, 8 from Delhi, 65 from CRPF, 21 from SSB, and the remainder from other States/UTs and Central Armed Police Forces.
Among the 102 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), 94 have been awarded to Police Service, 4 to Fire Service, and 4 to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service. Out of the 753 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), 667 have been presented to Police Service, 32 to Fire Service, 27 to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 27 to Correctional Service.
