Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United States on Saturday for a three-day visit, set to attend a Quad summit and address a significant conclave at the United Nations.
Modi landed in Philadelphia and will continue on to Wilmington, Delaware, where he will participate in the annual Quad summit alongside US President Joe Biden and other world leaders. The summit is expected to introduce new initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and discussing peaceful resolutions to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
During his trip, Modi will also hold separate bilateral meetings with Biden and engage with global leaders on the sidelines of the Quad summit and the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York, PTI reported.
In his departure statement from New Delhi, Modi expressed eagerness to collaborate with Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the Quad Summit. “The forum has emerged as a key group of like-minded countries to work for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” he stated.
The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, known as the Quad, advocates for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, a position that Beijing views as an anti-China initiative.
Following the summit in Wilmington, Modi will attend an Indian community event on Long Island on September 22, and will address the UN General Assembly at the Summit of the Future the following day.
