Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the pivotal role of the newly inaugurated TATA Aircraft Complex in manufacturing C-295 aircraft, stating it will significantly contribute to both India’s and the global aviation industry’s future needs.

In a speech delivered during the complex’s inauguration alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, PM Modi highlighted the remarkable transformation of India’s aviation sector over the past decade. He noted, “We are already working to make India an aviation hub. This ecosystem will pave the way for Made in India civil aircraft in the future,” referencing the substantial orders from various Indian airlines for 1,200 new aircraft.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the advancements in India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, attributing its success to strategic decisions made over the last ten years. “Today, the defense manufacturing ecosystem in India is touching new heights. If we had not taken concrete steps a decade ago, it would have been impossible to reach this level today,” he remarked.

PM Modi elaborated on the government’s efforts to enhance private sector participation in defense manufacturing, improve public sector efficiency, and establish key defense corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. He stated, “Many such decisions filled the defense sector with new energy.”

The TATA Aircraft Complex, located at the TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) Campus, will serve as India’s first private sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for military aircraft. Under the C-295 program, a total of 56 aircraft will be produced, with 16 delivered directly by Airbus from Spain and 40 manufactured in India by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd.
