A military plane belonging to the Myanmar Army skidded off runway in Mizromm’s Lengpui airport on Tuesday. Around 8 people were injured in the incident. According to the Mizoram DGP, the plane from the Burmese Army “crashed” at Lengpui airport. The official said that there were 14 people on board along with the pilot. The injured have been taken to the nearby Lengpui Hospital.

Latest reports suggest that the Burmese aircraft was in Mizoram to evacuate soldiers from Myanmar, who had crossed over to escape resistance forces. The plane overshot Lengpui airport runway at 11am on Tuesday. While the injured have been admitted to the local hospital, there’s no news of any casualty so far.

According to a PTI report, India has already sent back over 180 Myanmarese soldiers to their own country. These soldiers had fled Myanmar after the skirmishes with an ethnic insurgent group. The report further added that in the last one week, 276 Myanmarese soldiers had entered Mizoram.

Out of these, 184 were returned on Monday, the Assam Rifles official was quoted as saying by PTI. All the soldiers were flown on Myanmar air force planes from Mizoram’s Lengpui airport located near Aizawl. The plane took the soldiers to Sittwe in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. On Tuesday, remaining 92 soldiers were being repatriated when the incident occurred.
