Developed by the Army Design Bureau (ADB), “Vidyut Rakshak”’ an Internet of Things-enabled system designed to monitor, protect, and control generators was launched today by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS).
This was developed by Maj Rajprasad R S and was recently displayed during “Exercise Bharat Shakti,” which was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The innovation showcases the Indian Army’s dedication to adopting advanced technologies for operational efficiency.
This system applies to all existing generators in the Indian Army, regardless of their type, make, rating, or age. Vidyut Rakshak not only monitors generator parameters but also predicts and prevents faults, automating manual operations with a user-friendly interface, thereby saving manpower.
The launch event included the rollout of the first production units of Vidyut Rakshak. In a demonstration of its capabilities, the VCOAS remotely switched on generators located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, and monitored their parameters from New Delhi. Lieutenant General Dwivedi praised the ADB’s efforts in technology absorption and innovation.
During Aero India 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, for the production of innovations. Vidyut Rakshak was the first innovation to be steered under this MoU. The transfer of technology (ToT) was formally concluded with a production agency during the ‘Indian Army Ideas and Innovation Competition’ on December 5, 2023, in New Delhi, in the presence of General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
In his message, General Manoj Pande appreciated the ADB’s efforts and highlighted the significance of Vidyut Rakshak’s success. He stated, “While the Indian Army is observing the ‘Year of Tech Absorption,’ this milestone success of Vidyut Rakshak from ‘Innovation to Induction’ sets a precedent and signifies the Indian Army’s commitment and efforts to leverage technology as a catalyst for transformative change.”
In addition to Vidyut Rakshak, the Indian Army has secured a patent for another innovation by Major Rajprasad, called the “Portable Multi-Target Detonation Device.” This device has already been inducted into the Indian Army, further exemplifying the Army’s innovative spirit and commitment to enhancing its technological capabilities.
The launch of Vidyut Rakshak marks a significant step in the Indian Army’s journey toward technological advancement and operational excellence. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and fostering innovation, the Army continues to enhance its readiness and efficiency, ensuring robust support for its operations across diverse environments.
