In a significant effort to restore normalcy in conflict-ridden Abyei, the Indian Battalion (INDBATT) has launched the “Ek Onkar Learning Center” for local children. This initiative, supported by local communities and the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), aims to provide a safe haven for learning and development in Rumajak village.
The new school is set to become a beacon of hope for hundreds of children who have faced the harsh realities of war, displacement, and insecurity. Equipped with essential resources and staffed by a dedicated team of male and female soldiers, the school offers a comprehensive curriculum. This includes basic literacy, sports, self-defence through Boxing and Taekwondo, and psychosocial support.
By fostering a nurturing environment, the initiative aspires to empower the young generation, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives and futures. The opening of the “Ek Onkar Learning Center” by INDBATT symbolizes resilience and the community’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing education, even in the face of adversity.
The local community has expressed overwhelming support and gratitude for this initiative, recognizing it as a pivotal step towards a brighter and more stable future for their children. Through this collaborative effort, INDBATT and UNISFA are addressing immediate educational needs and laying the foundation for long-term peace and development in Abyei.
