Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane will travel to Manila on September 11, 2024, to co-chair the fifth meeting of the India-Philippines Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC), according to an official release of the Ministry of Defence.  Aramane  will be joined by Irineo Cruz Espino, Senior Under Secretary from the Philippines’ Ministry of National Defence, as they discuss strengthening bilateral defence ties.

The discussions are set to focus on further consolidating defence cooperation between the two countries, in line with the growing strategic relationship. Aramane will also meet other high-ranking officials of the Philippines’ government during his visit.

The significance of this visit is amplified as both nations mark 75 years of diplomatic relations and celebrate a decade of India’s Act East Policy. Over the years, the India-Philippines relationship has evolved into a robust partnership, extending into key areas of defence and security. Both countries are committed to supporting each other’s efforts toward self-reliance in defence production.

The JDCC, formed under the Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation signed in 2006, has become a vital platform for enhancing defence collaboration. The fifth meeting elevates the co-chairing level to Secretary rank, following the fourth JDCC meeting in March 2023 in New Delhi at the Joint Secretary level.

This visit is expected to further reinforce the strategic bond between the two nations as they work together to ensure regional stability and cooperation.
