The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) scrambled two F-15SG fighter jets on Tuesday night to escort an Air India Express flight safely to Changi Airport. This comes after the aircraft, operating flight IX 684 from Madurai, had received an alarming email warning of a bomb onboard. Ground-based air defense systems and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were also activated in the emergency response.
Singapore’s Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen, revealed that the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) jets intercepted the plane and escorted it away from populated areas, ensuring safety until it landed at Changi Airport at 10:04 PM.
Once the plane landed, it was immediately handed over to the airport police, with investigations ongoing. The number of passengers aboard the flight has not yet been confirmed and Air India Express has yet to issue a statement.
Minister Ng praised the SAF and Home Team for their swift, professional actions, which ensured public safety during the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and further details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
