The Brazilian government has made a significant move toward a greener future with the approval and sanction of the “Fuel of the Future” law, aimed at promoting the production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). This new legal framework positions Brazil as a key player in the global shift toward decarbonizing aviation while simultaneously driving job creation, technological innovation, and exports.

Sustainable Aviation Fuels, which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fossil fuels, are central to these efforts. With Brazil already recognized as a leader in biofuels, the new law aims to capitalize on the nation’s strengths and ensure its role in the future of global aviation sustainability.

In response to the passing of the law, Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer expressed strong support. Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, praised the initiative and highlighted Brazil’s potential to lead SAF production. “We are confident that Brazil will soon be part of this value chain, producing and exporting sustainable aviation fuel,” Neto said, emphasizing Embraer’s commitment to collaborating on the country’s SAF strategy.

Embraer, a pioneer in biofuel research, has been working on sustainable aviation technologies for decades. Since 2004, the company has certified and produced ethanol-powered aircraft and is advancing research to qualify new technological routes for SAF development. All Embraer aircraft are certified to use a blend of up to 50% SAF, with future plans focused on accelerating the global transition to sustainable aviation.

The “Fuel of the Future” law is expected to solidify Brazil’s leadership in SAF, supporting not just environmental goals but also economic growth through exports and technological innovation.
