Six days after murder convict Balasaheb Bajaba Pawar, (36), pulled off a stunning escape from the Yerwada central prison, police are still groping in the dark on his whereabouts.
Senior police inspector Deepak Sawant ,Yerwada police station, said, ?Teams have been dispatched in search of Pawar. But we have no clue yet.? A police team was also sent to Pawar?s native place in Mangalapur at Ahmednagar, but he could not be located. Police teams also questioned the jail inmates who shared barrack with Pawar and also those who worked with him at the blacksmithy section.
Meanwhile, deputy inspector general of police SN Chavan, who is probing the jail break case, is yet to submit his report. Minister of State for Home Affairs Ramesh Bagwe had asked the jail administration to submit a report within eight days. Bagwe has said that it was not possible for him to escape from jail without help from other inmates or even the jail staff.
?The jail authorities are supposed to submit their report in eight days. Four jail guards were suspended immediately on Monday. Proper action will be taken after I get the report,? Bagwe told The Indian Express.
Pawar, a native of Ahmednagar, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2004 murder case, was lodged in barrack number seven at circle number three at the Yerwada central prison. He was working in the blacksmithy section. Giving a slip to the tight security in the prison, he broke the metal grill of the window of his barrack and then scaled four compound walls using an assembly of a ?J? shaped hook, pieces of iron pipe and rope between 3 am and 6 am on Monday. He cleared a distance of about 250 metres to escape from the jail.
