Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting (WCCLtg), the consumer division of infotech major Wipro, is coming up with a basket of investment in two months to tap the potential market in West Bengal.
WCCLtg is going to relaunch its soap brand, Santoor, with a new packaging, launch artificial sweetner Wipro Sweet & Healthy and enhance investments by 10-12% in the liquid detergent categories that include Safe Wash and Santoor Glycerine soap.
In toilet soap category, WCCLtg has an 8.7% share in the Rs 6,500 crore market size in the country, Anil Chugh, senior vice president of Wipro Consumer told FE .
“Soap contributes about 50% of our total revenue and we are planning to relaunch Santoor in West Bengal with a new shape and packaging to live up to our customer’s expectations and gain more market share,” Chugh said. “The sweetner is available in Andhra Pradesh. We have chosen West Bengal as our second destination as it has a big wellness category market, growing at 12-15%” he added.
About enhancing investments in the state, Chugh told FE : “About 10-12% of the revenue we generate from a particular brand is used for investments, and in West Bengal, we would enhance our investments in advertisements and consumer promotions of Santoor glycerine soap and liquid detergent categories.
About revenue, Chugh said that in 2007-08 the division had a turnover of Rs 1,520.7 crore in Indiam, registering a growth of 86% as against Rs 816 crore recorded in the last fiscal.
In the first nine months of 2008-09, the revenue stood at Rs 1,566.6 crore. WCCLtg has a presence in more than 40 countries worldwide. It has 13 manufacturing locations, eight in India and five overseas, with a portfolio of 63 brands (15 in India and 48 overseas).
