Wipro BPO will set up a new centre in the US in the current fiscal to tap compliance-sensitive projects.
?In the long-term, expanding overseas is a portfolio requirement. We cannot put our base in India alone. As part of the global expansion plan, we will open a new centre in the US to primarily handle compliance-sensitive processes that cannot be brought to India,? Wipro BPO chief executive officer TK Kurien said. He said the company was also ramping up its operations in Romania and China. ?We are recruiting people in Romania and it will be a 100-people team for procurement processes, while in China the team size will be nearly 300 people, primarily in the financial analytics space,? he said. Kurien said that they were able to mitigate the impact of rupee appreciation through operational efficiencies and improved seat utilisation. Wipro BPO recorded a Y-O-Y growth of 34.8% in operating margins, while revenue grew by 19.9% during the first quarter ended June 2007.
