Tamil film director Seeman, who has strong views on the LTTE, today said he proposed to convert the ‘Nam Tamizhar (We tamils)’ outfit floated by him into a political party next month.

“A formal function will be held in Madurai on May 18 to launch the political party,” he told reporters here.

Seeman had twice been arrested in the past – the first time on October 24, 2008 with director Ameer on sedition charges for “inflammatory speeches” at the October 19 Tamil film industry rally at Rameswaram in support of Sri Lankan Tamils and on December 19 with Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam president T S Mani and President of Tamil Desiya Pothuudamai Katchi Maniyarasan for allegedly speaking in favour of LTTE at a public meeting on December 14.

On Apr 17 2009, the Madras High Court had quashed Seeman’s detention under National Security Act for allegedly speaking in favour of LTTE at a public meeting on February 17 in Palayamkottai, holding the speech did not attract provisions of Unlawful activities Prevention Act and affect the country’s sovereignty.
