The state government on Friday finally decided to introduce Value Added Tax (VAT) in Uttar Pradesh from January 1, 2008. The state Cabinet, in its meeting on Friday, took a decision in this regard and said that VAT was to be implemented in the state from December but it was delayed as the President took some time to grant her permission. According to the information provided by the state Cabinet, computerisation work at the trade tax department has been completed and the officers have been imparted necessary training. Besides, the officials of the trade tax department have held several rounds of meeting and organised workshop for the traders providing them information regarding the VAT.
