The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) recovered Rs 23.20 crore from the defaulting consumers upto June 15 during the current financial year and either temporarily or permanently snapped power supply of 53,684 non payers.
While stating this here on Friday, a spokesman for the Nigam said by intensifying the campaign launched to recover the arrears, over 56% of the defaulting amount had been recovered. Nigam has to recover a total of Rs 34 crore from the defaulters whose connections had been discontinued, he added.
Nigam would specially focus on the permanently disconnected consumers in view of the fact that the electricity is a basic requirement. During cross-checking of such consumers, it was observed that about 20% of the permanently disconnected consumers had been either drawing electricity illegally or they had the connection in under other person’s name.
To ensure that electricity is not drawn by the person without having a legitimate connection, Nigam has decided to constitute inter-circle and inter-division checking teams in which the officers and staff with good integrity would be deputed. The progress of such cases will be monitored on a monthly basis.
