Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will meet senior management of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Friday to discuss the suspension of the two workmen at the company?s Igatpuri plant.
Prior to Friday?s meeting, Sena chief has also called the two workmen suspended by the management at his residence ? Matoshree ? in Mumbai at 9 pm on Thursday to discuss the matter, said sources in the union.
?Chief has told us that he would talk to the two workmen and the management,? said a source. He added that the workmen will continue their strike at the Igatpuri plant till the two employees are not reinstated.
The union has been asking for reinstatement of two workmen, including their leader Sunil Yadav, president of Bharatiya Kamgar Sangh, affiliated to Shiv Sena, who were suspended by the management on disciplinary ground on April 9 following a strife between the two workmen.
Igatpuri plant entered into the eighth day of tool-down strike. The loss of production is seen at 8,000 units. The loss in value is seen at R15-18 crore per day. The plant employees 1,500 workmen including contract employees. An email sent to M&M went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Nashik plant continued to get impacted due to the ongoing strike at the Igatpuri plant. The production was impacted by 60-70% on Thursday as well. Moreover, the meeting of the management with Nashik labour commissioner and the workmen over the new wage agreement was not scheduled for Thursday and is expected to take place on Monday, said source in the union at Nashik.
