Two persons have died in separate road mishaps during the last 24 hours in Zirakpur, police said on Friday. In the first accident on Dera Bassi-Ramgarh road on Thursday night, Manish Kumar (19), a resident of Kishangarh in Chandimandir (Panchkula), lost his life.

The accident took place when Manish was on his way home and his motorcycle rammed a wall on the roadside.

The collision was so powerful that the youth died on the spot. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after conducting the postmortem and inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been initiated, said the police.

The other incident took place on Ambala-Kalka railway track near Gazipur Jattan village in Zirakpur, which left a 50-year-old woman dead. Lalru Railway Police Incharge Sulekh Chand told Newsline that the woman was walking along the track and was struck by the Sadbhavna Express on its way to Chandigarh on Friday morning. The deceased has not been identified as yet.

She was wearing a cream colour suit and was carrying Rs 600 in a velvet purse. The body of the deceased has been kept at Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for identification and inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC have been initiated.
