Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, will expand its component supplier base after the launch of its much-awaited compact car, Etios.
Currently, TKM procures auto components, excluding engines, from 67 domestic suppliers, primarily in-and-around Bangalore, Hosur and Chennai region. The component supply goes into assembling Fortuner, Corolla and Innova at the company?s manufacturing facility near Bangalore.
TKM?s component requirement will be sourced mainly from in-and-around Bangalore after the Etios launch. The supplier base in Bangalore will be more than doubled to 50 from the 23 now. In Chennai, the number will increase to 21 from 13.
TKM MD Hiroshi Nakagawa said the company’s supplier base (number of component suppliers) will increase to 101, once the company starts producing Etios, which would hit Indian roads by the year-end.The company would consider setting up engine plant too in India, depending on sales, Nakagawa said.
