The multi-purpose sports stadium of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela was on Wednesday renamed after local boy and former Indian hockey captain Dilip Tirkey.
The ‘Dilip Tirkey Sport’s stadium’, was formally inaugurated by Dilip Tirkey himself at a simple function in Rourkela.
“I am a small man to get such a honour from a national reputed institution. I have won many prizes and awards but today’s honour and award to me is very special, which I cannot forget in my life time,” Dilip said in presence of staff members and large number of students.
He said he would visit the institution on occasions to play hockey with the students to encourage them. In an exhibition hockey match Panposh Hockey Sports Hostel defeated the NIT team 1-0 on the occasion.
