Tata Steel has achieved a significant jump of 30% in production of saleable steel during the first quarter of 2009-10 compared to the corresponding figure for FY 2008-09, while its sales for the quarter too showed a 22% rise over the year-ago period.
The steel major?s monthly production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel for June 2009 increased by 16%, 21% and 38%, respectively, over the corresponding figures for June 2008.
The company?s sales for the first quarter of FY10 stood at 1.42 million tonne compared to the corresponding figure of 1.16m tonne for the April-June quarter of 2008-09. Sales figure for June 2009 showed a 19% rise as it sold 0.50m tonne during the month compared to 0.42m tonne in June 2008.
The company said its saleable steel production during the first quarter of FY10 was 1.54m tonne compared to 1.19m tonne during the first quarter of the previous fiscal.
Similarly, hot metal and crude steel production for the first quarter of the current financial year stood at 1.69m tonne and 1.50m tonne, respectively, compared to 1.39m tonne and 1.26m tonne during the first quarter of FY09.
The steel major said its sales of long and flat products for June 2009 were higher by 30% and 12%, over the corresponding figures for June 2008.
