With home minister P Chidambaram in the centre of the fire over his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam, the UPA government faces not one but two adjournment motions ? from the Left and the Right wings of the political spectrum ? this winter session which begins Tuesday.
The NDA held a meeting of its floor leaders on Monday and decided to support the Left-sponsored motion against the government on the issue of price rise, while also deciding to move ahead with its own adjournment motion on the issue of black money.
?The NDA will be bringing in its own adjournment motion on black money, and we will also be supporting the Left’s adjournment motion on price rise. Moreover, the NDA feels that home minister P Chidambaram is as guilty as Raja for the 2G spectrum scam, and we will boycott him in Parliament. We will not allow him to speak,? said senior BJP leader S S Ahluwalia.
Suring last week’s all-party meet called by LS Speaker Meira Kumar, the Left had chided the BJP on backing out on an adjournment motion on price price during the previous session.
?This time round, we have agreed to support the Left’s
adjournment motion,? said Ahluwalia.
The government already apprehending a stormy session has listed more than 30 bills for clearing, but admits privately that ?we would be lucky to see any work done.? ?Of the bills, we are anxious to clear the pension regulatory bill, the whistle blower bill and the Lokpal bill. Lets see,? said a government floor manager.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be attending an all-party meeting Tuesday morning, and will make a last-ditch appeal for work to continue.
