Sony recently launched its 16.2-megapixel Cyber-shot digital still camera that offers full high definition (HD) video shooting capability at the touch of a dedicated movie button. Recording video at 60 progressive frames per second (1920 x 1080 60p), the DSC-HX100V can capture fast-moving action with exceptional smoothness and clarity. The gadget is Japanese consumer electronics major?s first compact digital still camera to include a 27 mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T lens with 30x optical zoom, combined with full HD (1920 x 1080/60p) video capability.
At a core level, these new H Series cameras (DSC-HX9V being the other) are a great addition to the already explosive high zoom market, loaded with cutting-edge innovations by Sony to shoot stills and video. With these unique technologies, including GPS, 3D, AVCHD video as well as increased zoom, Sony is offering consumers the best of both worlds.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100V is basically a successor of DSC HX1, which was hugely successful when released in 2009. A quick background: When Sony launched its HX1 model, it was the first among camera makers to introduce a feature called Panorama Sweep, in which it captures a series of images as you pan the camera, and stitch together all the images to make one extremely wide shot image. Now Sweep Panorama mode is very much a familiar feature in Sony models. The fact is, Sony always tries to blend latest technology with a great sense of style, and the company?s DSC HX 100V is another example of this.
The DSC HX 100V is a feature packed camera, which has got pretty much everything you can imagine in a digital camera. This camera has been designed to span the gap between point-and-shoot consumer digital cameras and entry-level digital SLRs; in many ways, Sony engineers have succeeded in creating the ultimate all-in-one imaging device.
The most remarkable part of DSC-HX100V is the lens. This is a 30x zoom that spans focal lengths ranging from 27 mm to 810 mm. This camera has built-in GPS tracking complete with a compass, full 1080p high-definition video recording with stereo sound and HDMI output and 3D still images. Other key features of the well-appointed Sony HX100V include Intelligent Sweep Panorama, which now include a 42.9 megapixel high resolution mode, a tilting 3-inch LCD screen with 921,000-dots, 10fps burst shooting mode at full resolution, ISO range of 100-3200, Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode (which cuts camera-shake while you?re shooting hand held HD video), Intelligent Auto Plus, Program and full Manual shooting modes, and support for both Memory Stick PRO Duo and Secure Digital cards.
Let us talk about its performance. With a 30x zoom, this is an ideal camera in any situation and it will fulfill your desire to reach out and capture all those long distance shots. A nice big hand grip with a rubberised feel gives it a professional feel and makes it easy to handle. It is also pretty lightweight if we compared it to a DSLR with that much size of lens.
Another interesting thing which I like in this camera is the lens arrangement. Alternately, you can choose to use Manual Focus by switching a button on the lens and then by rolling the lens barrel itself, or you can use the Auto Focus mode. The photo quality of this camera is excellent in comparison of other cameras in its segment, but I must say that don?t expect your images of a DSLR quality.
The bottom line for me with this camera is it is just plain fun to use.
Anyone looking for a ?do-it-all? camera that packs a huge zoom in a small body and takes great photo and video will love this camera.
