In a surprise move, the Samajwadi Party (SP), which has been trooping into the well of the Lok Sabha demanding a JPC probe into the alleged corruption in the 2G spectrum allocation issue, today came out in the open to shield Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from the ire of the Supreme Court on the issue of delayed response to Subramanian Swamy’s plea seeking sanction for prosecution of former telecom minister A Raja.

The SP on Thursday tried to differentiate between the PM and the Congress, by training its guns against the Congress over the allegations of corruption.

?The Prime Minister is only answerable to the the Lok Sabha and nobody else. The court can summon the Cabinet Secretary or the PMO officials to seek explanation on the issue. The Prime Minister is not duty-bound to respond to the Supreme Court’s notice,? SP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Mohan Singh asserted today adding, ?The stability of the Prime Minister’s office is important for democracy.?

At the same time, the SP spokesperson trained his guns on the ruling Congress over the allegations of corruption in the allocation of 2G spectrum.

?The Congress is to be blamed for the entire 2G spectrum allocation issue. The PM was forced by the Congress party to induct A Raja into the Cabinet on the pretext of coalition compulsions,? said Mohan Singh.
