I am a HR manager working for a large media group.?It?s one of the best known and respected names in India.?I work for some of its verticals and look after sourcing or recruitment.?I don?t feel happy with the repetitive nature of my job and the fact that there is no growth.?Now, I have another opportunity as a HR generalist in a smaller services firm that is well known. The hike is good, the commute is fine, the working hours suit me, but I?have been advised by my husband?against taking up this opportunity, as it?s a small firm.? How should I evaluate this opportunity?

?NS, New Delhi

Brand and size of the organisation are important criteria in evaluating a job opportunity. Money is always a critical factor in shaping job satisfaction.?To my mind, money is not as critical as other factors and may, in fact, be overglorified.?Picture a scenario where you are extremely well compensated and let?s say, you are paid a crore and are neither allowed to function nor given any empowerment, nor your expertise is respected.?Trust me, it?s not going to be a cushy crore. I am not making out a case for working only for the love of work and not for money.?Financial serenity, as opposed to financial security, is the key to satisfaction. Similarly, brand and size of the organisation have a role in determining satisfaction and more importantly, future prospects.

The most critical factors are those of role and culture or environment.?How meaningful is the role offered to you??Are you going to be working in an environment that is dynamic, allows empowerment, respects and rewards your contribution? If yes, then go for it.?Your talent and your contribution in such an organisation will allow for growth within the organisation and shape good future prospects.
